Allegheny River, “Wild and Scenic”

I’ve become an avid user of Google Earth since getting my drone. I often scour the landscape looking for features that would be interesting to photograph. While on a day-long running adventure in December we traveled along the North Country National Scenic Trail on the river’s banks in Venango County. I was surprised at how tranquil and beautiful it was. I knew I had to come back.

After some research this spring I decided that this spot just west of Emlenton would be a good place to start. It’s aptly called Big Bend. I wasn’t able to fly as high as I wanted but this image still gives you a sense of the horseshoe curve the river takes here as it heads downstream towards Pittsburgh and its terminus.
